Relief Sculpture for the Wall, Jan Chenoweth, Roger Halligan, Robert Howard, June 19th – August 30th, 2014

Husband-wife sculptors Roger Halligan and Jan Chenoweth of Chattanooga share the billing with the late Robert Howard in this grouping of three solo exhibitions of relief wall sculptures. Both are former North Carolina artists who have moved to Tennessee. And both have outdoor works in the public art collection of the City of Raleigh.

Own a piece of the legendary Pine Room from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Esteemed sculptor Robert Howard created a huge sculpture in 1962 composed of scores of symbolic images in relief for the popular gathering place for students and faculty in the basement of Lenoir Hall. The work remained there as a focal point until 20 years ago when the dining hall was renovated. The sculpture, comprised of nine individual units, was reinstalled in the Robert B. House Undergraduate Library where it remained until a few years ago when that building underwent renovation. The sculpture’s components are now available for purchase with the proceeds going to the UNC Department of Art. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a piece of work with great provenance by a nationally recognized sculptor. Howard has work in the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of the Arts, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the North Carolina Museum of Art, among others.

The Pine Room Relief Collection can also be viewed independently at it’s own website including updated availability at http://uncpineroomsculptures.com.
